Director, Shared Services, Danforth Campus
Washington University in St. Louis seeks an innovative finance and operations professional to lead the Universitys development of a shared-services function that will streamline business process at the Danforth campus, home of most of the Universitys academic divisions and most of its central administrative functions. This groundbreaking initiative has the potential to transform the delivery of business services to administrative and academic units across this world-class private university.
The Shared Services Center (SSC) will provide transactional administrative and financial support to select Danforth Campus administrative units, with the goal of serving most Danforth administrative units as well as academic units. The SSC will centralize many of the financial and human-resource transactional activities and may provide financial management services such as budget preparation and reporting. The SSC will offer departments more timely and effective support, allowing them to focus resources on their core missions of education and research.
Reporting to the Universitys Controller, the SSC Director will design the structure for this new center and will thereafter provide leadership, supervision, and ongoing management for the SSC. With the Centers demonstrated success, the Director will create the opportunity to expand the Center and extend its services to the Danforth Campus schools and colleges on the basis of consultation, refinement of service-level agreements, and analysis of performance metrics for the SSC.
The Director will interact with a range of internal and external contacts, including senior leadership of the University, business managers in academic units, faculty, auditors, vendors and service providers, and the public as a representative of the University in matters concerning the Shared Services initiative.
The Universitys first Shared Services Director will be an innovative leader with the communication and relationship skills needed to work collaboratively in a complex and decentralized environment. He/she will have a bachelors degree with a concentration in accounting, finance (or equivalent work experience) and at least 10 years of relevant professional experience including at least four years of supervisory experience. An MBA or equivalent graduate degree and/or CPA is preferred, as is experience developing or managing a shared-services center. Strong project-management and organizational skills are necessary. Professional experience in Higher Education is a plus.
