Elon University is currently accepting applications for a Director of Study Abroad. The Director of Study Abroad will lead a staff in meeting institutional goals surrounding international education and oversee a vibrant program of international education which sends over 1000 students abroad each year. Minimum qualifications include a Master's Degree, eight years' experience in a study abroad with increasing levels of responsibility, ability to lead and work effectively and positively with a busy team, willingness and ability to occasionally work irregular hours, excellent communication (written and oral) skills and good computer skills. Other useful skills could include foreign language skills, ability to market programs, experience with Studio Abroad, and the ability to oversee a complex website. A recognized leader in engaged learning, Elon University consistently ranks as a top institution for study abroad. 72% of graduates in the Class of 2013 had studied abroad at least once while at Elon. During the 2013-2014 academic year, more than 1,250 Elon students (out of an undergraduate population of about 5,300) will have studied abroad. About 500 of these students studied abroad for a semester at one of three Elon Centers Abroad or at one of more than 80 affiliate and exchange programs in more than 40 countries. More than 700 students participated in 30 intensive, 3-week, faculty-led courses abroad during the Winter Term. Additional students complete a variety of internships and other experiences abroad during the summer.

Elon University was a recipient of the 2007 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization from NAFSA: Association of International Educators. In December 2009, the University announced its 10-year strategic plan, The Elon Commitment: Engaged minds. Inspired leaders. Global citizens. The plan includes objectives of providing access to global experiences to 100 percent of students. The Isabella Cannon Global Education Center is Elon's hub for international activity. In August 2014, the Center will move into a new, 30,000-square-foot commons building at the heart of the Global Neighborhood residential area.
