Job Description: Instructor/PKY School Counselor PK Yonge Developmental Research School
P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School, a publicly-funded K-12 laboratory school affiliated with the College of Education at the University of Florida, seeks nominations and applications for the position of School Counselor. This is a full-time, 10-month, school counselor that reports to the Assistant Principal of Academic Advisement and School Counseling of P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School.
P.K. Yongecounseling program is integral to student achievement and preparation for post high school success. P.K. Yonge has been designing, revising, and implementing a K-12 multi-tiered system of support since 2006. As such, the role of school counselors is integral to our systems of support for our students.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities and expectations for a School Counselor at P.K. Yonge are as follows: direct services to individual students through preventive and responsive services studentsacademic progress, behavior, and attendance and facilitate/provide appropriate intervention with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, and life planning technology to support students and their families to parent contacts (electronically, face-to-face, and conferences) in inquiry to support continuous program improvement in ongoing professional learning
Required Qualifications (Education and Experience):(1) a degree in school counseling (graduate degree preferred); (2) Florida certification (school counselor); (3) 3+ years of counseling experience (preferred); (4) excellent oral and written communication skills; and (5) demonstrated commitment to diversity and effective strategies for motivating and engaging students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds.
Starting Date and Salary:The starting date is August 7, 2014. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. This position is a 10-month appointment.

About P.K. Yonge:Established in 1934, PK Yonge Developmental Research School is a public school district affiliated with the University of Florida and located on its campus. The school serves approximately 1,150 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
