Virginia State University is seeking experienced professionals to for two dynamic positions: Vice President Institutional Advancement and Vice President for Student Affairs.  Both positions report directly to the President of the University.

Vice President for Institution Advancement (FA581)

The Vice President for Advancement is responsible for providing the leadership, vision and effective management to take the University's development and alumni relations initiatives to new and higher levels of accomplishment. The Vice President will build on a solid base of donors, alumni and friends to develop a plan for attracting continuing University support and broadening the University's base of support. This will include establishing goals and the creation of a strategic and tactical plan for achieving them in conjunction with the staff. The advancement function includes responsibility for annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and gift planning, endowment, capital campaigns, and alumni and constituent relations efforts, stewardship, and advancement services.  Additionally, the Vice President will provide leadership and guidance to the other reporting units, Governmental Affairs, University Relations and the Real Estate Foundation. 

Qualifications:  The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of experience and a proven a record of leadership and accomplishment in advancement with a proven track record of fundraising success, especially with campaign planning/execution and in major gift solicitations. Strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership capabilities are required. The successful candidate will document successful solicitation of numerous major and principal gifts and present a history of building advancement program and fund raising performance. S/he will have significant senior-level experience in fundraising and in managing complex programs and a demonstrated ability to be a strategist with the ability to analyze data and develop a successful strategic plan.   Higher education experience is preferred.

Vice President for Student Affairs (FA500)

The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for providing leadership and management oversight to all Student Affairs programs and services: counseling, residence life, career services, physical fitness and recreation, judicial affairs, student government,   student life, campus safety and security, and financial aid.  The position plays a leadership role in the setting and maintaining standards conducive to the academic, personal and professional growth and development of students.  The Vice President is charged with providing strong leadership and creative vision for the implementation of a comprehensive and effective student affairs program for the University and establishing and implementing short and long-range organizational goals; Additionally, the selected candidate will develop, implement, and coordinate campus and community based programs that meet the varying needs of a student population on a 24-hour residential campus.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate and at least 10 years of progressive leadership experiences at a college and/or university with extensive and relevant experience in one or more areas of student services.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated effectiveness in working collaboratively with a diverse population and other constituents.  Must have experience in planning, administration, personnel, facilities, and fiscal management and developing and managing complex budgets for both state-funded and self-supporting operations. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience with strategic planning and student affairs best practices. In addition, s/he must have experience with student conduct and Title IX issues.
