IUPs College of Education and Educational Technology is seeking an

Associate Dean for Teacher Education (Manager 210) to provide leadership

and coordination for IUPs teacher education programs offered at the Indiana

and regional campuses in Monroeville, Pittsburgh, and Northpointe.


Role of the Associate Dean:

The Associate Dean for Teacher Education provides leadership to the faculty

and staff of IUP Teacher Education Programs as the academic officer for

teacher preparation programs. The Associate Dean oversees the Office of

Teacher Education housed in the College of Education and Educational

Technology Deans Office, including personnel of a Director of Field

Placements and two support staff. The Office of Teacher Education is

responsible for providing overall leadership for teacher preparation field

experiences for 2800 education majors resulting in 1400 school placements

per year. This office also provides leadership in developing and maintaining

partnerships with schools, school districts, professional development sites

and sites abroad. The Associate Dean works closely with the Dean of the

College and all teacher education programs to maintain IUPs

NCATE/CAEP accreditation and state approvals for credit and professional

development programs leading to Pennsylvania Department of Education

certificates in teaching, leadership, other educational specialist areas. The

Associate Deans accreditation responsibilities also include coordination of

IUPs unit assessment systems (e.g. LiveText and other internal systems).


About Teacher Education at IUP:

IUP enjoys a strong reputation for providing leading-edge development and

growth opportunities for students and professionals in education and allied

fields. Teacher education programs at IUP are distributed across the

departments housing their academic disciplines, with field placement

coordination and university partnerships centrally serviced through the Office

of the Associate Dean. The Office of the Associate Dean also coordinates the

Teacher Education Coordinating Council (TECC), a collaborative,

multidisciplinary entity comprised of faculty representing the teacher

education programs on campus. The success of the organizational structure

of teacher education at IUP is best served through collaborative leadership.


Required Qualifications of the Successful Candidate:

Doctoral degree in Teacher Education or related field

Certification and experience as a teacher (three years)

Experience as university teacher education faculty or program administrator

Experience with supervision and assessment procedures of teacher


Experience in developing institutional reports for NCATE/CAEP

accreditation and state teacher education program approval processes.

Experience with information management systems


Preferred Qualifications of the Successful Candidate:

Experience with certification of Pennsylvania Department of Education

teacher certification requirements

Experience with internal assessment systems (such as LiveText)

Knowledge of national trends and issues in teacher education

Collaborative leadership skills

Experience with school-university partnerships

Experience in educational leadership

Good oral and written communication skills
