Residential Coordinator - First Year Program
St. Lawrence University in New York
|Deadline||Open until filled|
|Date Posted||April 4, 2014|
The Office of Residence Life at St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Residential Coordinator (RC) to join our Student Life team. The Residence Life program at SLU includes a residential component to one of the nations oldest living-learning programs for first-year students where faculty and Student Life efforts are integrated in meaningful ways. The University also offers upper-class students a variety of housing options, including living-learning communities, theme cottages, townhouses, and traditional residence halls. As a residential campus, approximately 98% of our students live in University housing.
Residential Coordinators are responsible for implementing a comprehensive residential program within a selected area of campus and work on a team with three other full-time RCs; two positions support the Universitys First Year Program and two support upper class housing communities. This anticipated opening will supervise approximately 20 Community Assistants (CAs) in a first year residential area comprised of three buildings housing 350 500 residents. This position will also co-facilitate a credit-bearing leadership course developed specifically for the Residence Life CA program.
This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Residence Life and will be involved in the following functions of the residential program: community development, supervision and mentoring of the CA staff, development of CA selection and training programs, housing selection, and the ongoing development of a relational community building model based on the concept of self-authorship. The RC position also has evening and weekend on-call responsibilities approximately one week per month and will work with CAs and Student Life staff when crisis situations occur. This position may also advise class councils and/or student organizations, contribute to wellness education, and serve on various University committees.
Requirements include a Master's degree in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with prior residential supervisory experience may be considered. Theoretical understandings of student development and an appreciation for multicultural education are also required. Successful candidates will demonstrate initiative, personal integrity, excellent interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a good sense of humor.
The Residential Coordinator position is a full-time, 11 month, live-in position. Remuneration includes $28,000 $30,000, commensurate with experience and education, a furnished on-campus apartment, board plan when classes are in session, and a competitive benefits package.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and list of three professional references with contact information to: Christopher Marquart, Assistant Dean of Student Life and Director of Residence Life & Housing, Office of Residence Life, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY 13617 or e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org (preferred).
