The Information Technology Department at UMass Amherst is seeking a Data Center Manager reporting to the Director, Enterprise Infrastructure. The Data Center Manager operates, maintains, and manages staff responsible for University data centers, configuration and change management, service monitoring, outage resolution, tracking, and reporting. This position serves the campus community as a technical expert for data centers, production services availability, configuration and asset control systems, and incident and outage resolution. This position builds and operates effective, comprehensive data centers that support campus information technology needs and compliance with legal and business requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in an IT related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. Must have 3 years current professional work experience in deploying, operating, and maintaining data centers in a large multi-platform environment. Must have a working knowledge of server operations, networking, and current information security procedures. Must include at least one year directly managing technical staff. Experience managing scheduling, work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education to ensure highly available services and operations. Cell phones or other devices will be provided for off-hour contact consistent with departmental policies. Must have experience with incident response and outage reporting procedures, computer and network data collection and investigations, and event containment and remediation for a large institutional environment. Experience in higher education is highly desirable. Experience interfacing with data center operations staff, management, IT staff administrative services, client IT users, contractors, and outside vendors and suppliers. Experience with developing and maintaining service level agreements with various user departments and enterprise business units. Demonstrated understanding of Information Technology Service Management, and Identification, Control, Status, and Verification. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to work with a diverse constituency in a service based organization are essential. Ability to lead groups in a project management function is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work well on collaborative, cross-functional teams is desired. Solid interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with people of all levels of information technology expertise with a wide range of constituencies and organizational relationships. A familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, ISO 27000, SSAE-16, and other security/privacy laws and standards is required.
Hiring Salary Range: $55,000 - $69,200
Normal Hiring Range: $55,000 - $62,100
Professional Staff Salary Administration Program Position Level 28
