EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND PROVOST
We are 21,300 students, 1,300 faculty and 3,200 staff members seeking a chief academic officer for one of the nation’s most dynamic public research universities. Forging the future in the lakeside shadow of the Blue Ridge’s greatness, the Clemson University community invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Reporting directly to our new president, James Clements, the provost provides shared leadership to ensure and enhance academic excellence, impact and value in the University’s diverse mission.
Established in 1889 to fulfill our founder’s vision of a “high seminary of learning” for the people of South Carolina, Clemson has emerged as a research university with global vision and reach that remains committed to the quality of its well-known undergraduate experience. Clemson’s unique origin and idyllic college-town setting have carved a distinctive culture of community, collegiality, collaboration and service — traits inseparable from our institution itself.
The new executive level of the position accompanies an enhanced portfolio of responsibility that reflects our renewed commitment to the academic heart of the University. We expect the provost to possess an accomplished academic and scholarly record complementing our mutual responsibility to discover, disseminate and apply knowledge. However, he or she must also evince the broad vision, proficient administrative service and shared leadership required to shape our role and legacy as a public land-grant university in the 21st century, with all its attendant opportunities and challenges.
Our University is embracing the spectrum of these challenges — inside and outside the classroom, locally and globally. We invite applications from, and nominations of, leaders with a passion for serving others with the same vision and commitment to academic excellence. Inquiries and nominations concerning the position may be directed to the search committee chair, Professor Jeremy King, at email@example.com. Additional information, including a prospectus for our provost opportunity, can be found at
While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new provost is selected, applicants are encouraged to submit their material by May 5 to ensure optimal consideration.
Clemson University is an Equal Opportunity/ADA/Affirmative Action employer and does not discriminate against any individual or group of individuals on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, pregnancy, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status or genetic information. We are committed to creating a diverse community of scholars. Individuals who contribute to building a diverse community, including minorities, women and persons with disabilities, are strongly and specifically encouraged to apply.
