The School of Continuing Education at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, effective July 1, 2014. The Lecturer will teach in the MS Program in Strategic Communications, the MS Program in Communications Practice, and other degree and non-degree programs in the School. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful reviews.
The School seeks a dynamic leader in the communications industry with demonstrated expertise in digital communications, social and mass media, corporate communications, or organizational communication. Candidates must also possess a scholarly and practical command of the theoretical foundations of strategic communications: communication, persuasion, discourse, and ethics, as well as related models of communication. Candidates must have a Master's degree in communications (PhD or relevant terminal degree strongly preferred); a minimum of ten years of applied professional experience; and at least five years of teaching experience at the graduate school level. The successful candidate will exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, instructional design and engaged scholarship.
Responsibilities include teaching and advising in the MS Programs and related programming areas; active participation in curriculum and program development and evaluation; faculty recruitment and evaluation; enhancing the program's reputation and expanding its network; and development and execution of strategies to support program area students as they transition to alum. The candidate must be capable of advancing the program's academic mission.
