Job Description: 

The Customer/System Support Specialist is responsible for all residential and administrative technology, equipment and inventory for University Housing at the ASU Polytechnic campus.  The work typically involves a combination of troubleshooting, recommending products for purchase, acting as a service support leader, delivering instruction, using software applications to meet Housing needs, and communicating with customers, other technology specialists, and vendors about services.


Essential Duties:

Provide support to users of information technology tools

Troubleshoot and recommend products for purchase

Act as a service support leader, providing instruction

Use software applications to meet specialized needs

Communicate with customers, other technology specialists, and vendors about services

Analyze and recommend modified and new business functions relative to current and new technologies

Identify, develop, and implement new services and options to residential students and administrative staff

Develop and integrate new or revised policies and procedures in consultation with supervisor



Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM; to include extended hours as needed.


Minimum Qualifications: 

Associates Degree in Information Technology or closely

related; OR, two (2) years providing first level desktop diagnostic and trouble-shooting support; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications: 

Experience in:

Working in a call center environment, responding to computer hardware/software questions 


Providing instruction pertaining to computer hardware/software use with windows and/or Mac systems


Providing customer assistance with network printers, active directory, scripting, network booting devices, and automated setup


Troubleshooting coax TV connections, IP phones, network copiers, and/or wired/wireless Ethernet connections


DeepFreeze, Norton Ghost and/or Pharos systems


Installing and configuring wireless routers (SOHO)


Configuring mobile devices to sync with Outlook and/or Gmail  


Working Environment

Professionally represent department/program

Sit or stand for duration of shift

Work collaboratively across various departments within the University as well as with diverse populations and groups

Use computers effectively - including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen, using mouse and keyboard, and sitting.

Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data

Supervise students and/or staff

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Travel throughout campus for meetings or events, regardless of the weather

Work collaboratively to achieve objectives

Ability to lift up to 35 lb.

Job location is primarily at the Polytechnic Campus; however, incumbent may occasionally be required to travel to other ASU campuses to perform work.


This position requires a valid AZ Drivers license upon employment, and a Department of Motor Vehicle check will be conducted.  Post offer of employment, the selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record, which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 months from date of hire.
