JOB DUTIES: Primary responsibilities include teaching studio trumpet and horn to undergraduate students, directing the university Jazz Band, and teaching other classes according to departmental need and the candidates expertise. Recruitment, advising, scholarly or creative activity, and departmental and university service are expected. The successful candidate will be an active performer, and will maintain visibility as a performer and teacher. Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in trumpet or horn performance or high brass pedagogy, a record of teaching experience at the university level, and experience in directing jazz ensembles. ABD and Masters qualified candidates with extensive professional experience will be considered. The chosen candidate will have a commitment to diversity, documented success in student recruitment and retention, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Other preferred qualifications include experience teaching in the public schools, experience teaching music education, experience with technology/computer applications, and demonstrated leadership skills. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
