The Senior Associate Dean for Research reports directly to the Dean of the College of Medicine. The successful candidate will be a recognized leader with an outstanding academic background, strong research and scholarship credentials, a well-established track record of securing extramural funding, a demonstrated commitment to education, experience in mentoring junior faculty, and proven team-oriented management skills in an academic environment.
He/she will enthusiastically embrace the College's mission, vision and values. The Senior Associate Dean for Research will develop and implement visionary strategies to help build a world-class, collaborative, actively grant-funded and vibrant research culture within the College, with a particular focus on biomedical and health-related fields, translational science and community-based clinical research.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned, articulate and polished professional with a passion for research excellence. He/she embraces the role of serving as a champion for advancing innovative and collaborative interdisciplinary research in a dynamic academic environment. The ideal candidate will have a broad and thorough knowledge of organizational management and program assessment/evaluation; be committed to advancing an inclusive and diverse research climate among faculty, students and staff that stimulates excellence; and be highly skilled in written/oral communications, interpersonal relations and conflict management. Familiarity with or experience in community-based clinical research is a plus.
Qualifications include a Doctoral degree (MD, PhD) in biomedical science, medicine, the health sciences or a closely related field is required.
* At least five years of senior administrative experience in a complex higher education academic department or medical school.
* At least 15 years of broad research experience and an extensive record of scholarship, including external funding and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
* Proven ability to build successful programs across a broad spectrum of participants.
* Experience with federal government funding mechanisms and familiarity with the role of federal, state, local and private organizations in funding research.
* Scholarly accomplishments commensurate with a faculty appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
