This position will report to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and serve on the senior management team for the admissions staff. Will work in partnership with 2 other Senior Associate Directors of Admissions to make up the Senior Management Team. Will provide leadership and participate in day-to-day management as well as strategic planning for the office of admissions.


Expected to contribute to improving the work and management of issues across the office, including but not limited to the evaluation and selection process. Will have up to 6 - 8 direct reports on the admissions staff and oversight over a major business area for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, including the evaluation and selection process. Reports to the Director of Admissions, but works with his/her own direct reports as a part of the admissions team.

Recruitment: Will have direct oversight of a regional territory: developing recruitment strategies and managing relationships with various constituents (counselors, alumni, etc.). Must be able to travel up to 8-10 weeks a year to fulfill recruitment needs for his/her direct region. Will also provide guidance and strategic direction in the regional planning and development of his/her direct reports.

Core Responsibilities: As a part of the management team, will have oversight of the evaluation and selection process, including responsibility for the design and implementation of a holistic and efficient application review and selection process which includes conducting audits and managing timelines. Will also be responsible for managing the waitlist and final transcript review process. Responsible for the training regarding evaluation and selection.


Additional duties:
- Oversee the regional management of his/her direct reports
- Participate and/or lead in the selection committee process
- Represent JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions

- Work collaboratively across teams and with other offices at JHU (eg. Marketing, Operations, PR, Financial Aid, etc).


Job Requirements


Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred. Five years experience of progressively responsible experience in admissions including the direct supervision of admissions officers is required. Ability to think creatively, analytically, strategically and collaboratively, and contribute to a team environment; experience with creating and implementing and evaluating marketing communication-recruitment plans. Professional history with institutional, regional and personal experience building relationships with and recruiting a multi-culturally diverse freshman class. Excellent interpersonal and direct supervisory skills; ability and experience with building partnerships with high school and college students, high school and college staff and faculty, and community leaders as well as secondary school and non- profit educational organization leaders.


Outstanding active listening and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations; experienced speaker in the field at the local, regional and national level. Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership; actively creative and strategic, work harmoniously, effectively and efficiently with diverse faculty, staff, students and the wider community. Highly polished customer service orientation; ability to interact with a wide variety of national and international constituencies both on and off-campus. Experience with hiring, training, mentoring and supervising Admissions Officer staff with ethical and balanced track record of success in staff development, contribution, leadership and promotion. Daily use of data management to inform decisions as well as review and collaboratively contribute to future planning. Experience with and knowledge of technological tools and systems used to present information, support planning and evaluate success; creative practice of social media platforms/tools. Demonstrated experience with highly selective admissions and financial aid practices. Experience developing and managing data-informed recruitment, image building and admission selection policies and plans.

Special skills and knowledge:
Must possess strong leadership skills, a team oriented approach to the work, the ability to solve problems and support the growth of others in a dynamic and fast paced office environment. Must be equally comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment as well as independently. Must demonstrate a strong ability to think critically to solve problems and be comfortable leveraging technology and data to inform business decisions. Must also be able to manage multiple projects in a deadline driven environment. Ability to collaboratively lead initiatives and programs which deliver information and service to a diverse population; experience contributing to or leading a marketing-recruiting team. Manage multiple roles and expectations concurrently; establish priorities with immediate follow through and thoughtful action.

Experience with strategic analysis and budget planning; practiced use of outcome based strategic planning. Knowledge of a highly selective, undergraduate admissions management and strategic planning in the liberal arts and sciences /engineering fields within a research university setting. Knowledge of international educational systems is desirable but not required. He/she must be able to leverage data and technology and work in collaboration with the Operations/Data/IT team to monitor and develop tools/reports to facilitate the evaluation and selection process. Knowledge and experience in international recruitment is desirable, though not required. Ability to work evenings and weekends and to travel nationally and internationally.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
