Scope of Job:
The Department of Medical Education at the UTRGV School of Medicine seeks to hire a highly qualified faculty member to teach histology primarily within the pre-clerkship curricular years of the MD program. The UTRGV School of Medicine pre-clerkship curriculum utilizes problem-based, self-directed, team-based and interactive learning to encourage student learning and development of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. The outlined faculty member will have a significate role in all components of the curriculum, including interactive learning sessions with histological specimens and problem-based learning sessions. Specifically, the faculty member will be a teaching resource in sessions/lectures and provide laboratory demonstrations in Histology, while also assisting in Anatomy and Embryology as needed, in the pre-clerkship curriculum.

Additionally, this position requires involvement with academic assessment, student academic remediation, individualized tutoring of students, along with any other relevant administrative duties that may be assigned by the departmental chair.



Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal doctoral degree (MD or equivalent, Ph.D. in Histology, Anatomy or related field).

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
