Job Description Summary
The prospective candidate will manage and process bio samples for bio banking and analysis for clinical research studies and healthy control donors as a component of an age-span study of Multiple Sclerosis and related disorders. Research generated from these samples will form the basis of future investigations into designing and implementing mechanism of action and biological proof-of-principal of emerging therapies, and development of clinically meaningful bio-markers as part of advancing precision medicine in autoimmune and CNS-inflammatory diseases.

Job Description

Research Specialist A:
The Department of Neurology is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work on multiple translational research projects related to age-span studies of Multiple Sclerosis and related disorders. The research specialist will process and store human bio-samples (including blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and lymphatic fluid) as well as utilize flow-cytometric and other cell-based assays on such bio-samples to investigate mechanisms of action of emerging immunotherapies in MS and the development of clinically meaningful bio-markers across autoimmune and CNS-inflammatory diseases. In addition, the candidate will be expected to assist other members of the lab in maintaining equipment and managing orders.

Research Specialist B:
In addition to the above responsibilities, this research specialist will perform single-cell genomics assays and analyze the results of these assays utilizing the R or Python coding languages. The specialist will also be responsible for training new staff and study personnel and effectively communicate with collaborators across research projects.

Position is contingent upon funding. In addition, the Resource Specialist A/B will assist in the general maintenance of the lab.

Hiring range minimum for this position is $50K.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.

Position Schedule: Must be able to work from 9am - 5pm on days when needed, or from 1pm - 9pm on days when needed

Qualifications
  • RS-A: Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The successful candidate must have exceptional organization and communication skills, ability to multi-task efficiently, work independently, and collect and organize data. Experience with the handling of live human or animal cellular specimens is strongly preferred. Experience with assays such as flow cytometry and cell culture is preferred.
  • RS-B: Bachelor of Science and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will have experience with the use of single-cell genomics assays and molecular biology techniques such as RNA isolation, PCR, and Illumina sequencing library preparation. Experience with the use of R/Python wil be highly preferred.
