Scope of Job:
Responsible for receiving and distributing meals to children's classrooms in the assigned UTRGV Early Head Start Center. Responsible for maintaining a clean and well sanitized kitchen in accordance with performance standards and state rules and regulations.

Description of Duties:
  • Performs a variety of activities related to food preparation and service, which may include routine food preparation tasks, dishwashing, general cleaning and organizing.
  • Coordinates with food delivery services or community partnerships to obtain breakfast, lunch and snacks to be provided to infants and toddlers.
  • Distribute meals to EHS classrooms accordingly.
  • May prepare noncooked basic snacks for delivery to classrooms.
  • Collects all dishes and utensils for washing and sanitizing.
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting staff’s eating room, stove, refrigerator, and washer/dryer.
  • Maintains all kitchen areas cleaned and disinfected in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
  • Responsible for maintaining current documentation and performing inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
  • Responsible for washing and drying functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Completion of the 6th grade. Ability to read and write English well enough to comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on cleansers, chemicals, and other containers, and to understand work orders, complete time cards, and receive oral and written work directions.

Preferred Education:
High School Diploma or GED.

Licenses/Certifications:
Food Handlers Permit.

Required Experience:
None.

Preferred Experience:
Housekeeping and kitchen related experience.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment. Kitchen equipment (oven, microwave, cooking utensils). Washer/Dryer. Must wear proper kitchen attire at all times. Knowledge in how to properly and safely use basic kitchen equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be physically able to stand and walk during working hours. Extended periods of standing and walking. Must feel comfortable working in a childcare setting. Exposed to sharp utensils, kitchen equipment, cleaning solutions. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Other:
Ability to read, write, and communicate. Ability to use basic kitchen equipment and utensils. Knowledge of hygiene practices
