RPED Coordinator of Rural Student Success

Job Duties:
This is a grant funded position. The Coordinator manages the comprehensive student support services provided for rural student success with the goal of retaining and graduating rural students in a timely fashion. The Coordinator works across Student Services to ensure rural students are engaged with their success coach, with their faculty advisor, and with any financial, disability, or counseling service they need based on their individual situation. The Coordinator will connect students and facilitate their access to external resources in support of their individual needs, including but not limited to their academic, financial, or basic needs. The Coordinator works closely with the Director of Student Engagement to develop and implement student programming for rural students and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop, plan, implement, and coordinate the events for rural students
  • Work with the Director of Admissions to ensure that recruiting plans targeting prospective rural students addresses issues rural students encounter
  • Connect students to and guide them through the use of internal and external resources based on individual needs in order to provide comprehensive student support meeting students basic, financial, academic, and other needs
  • Communicate with rural students' success coaches, faculty, and faculty advisors to monitor rural students' academic success
  • In collaboration with the Director of Student Success, design communication plans focused on rural students providing direction to student support services on campus such as disability services, counseling services, and financial aid guidance
  • Plan and implement a rural student support group as well as assist and guide rural students through the process for creating a registered student organization for rural students as well as recruiting a faculty advisor for the organization that will be engaged and active
  • Maintain a high level of visibility and availability to rural students and their families
  • Identify opportunities for improving Athens State's support of rural students and work to implement those opportunities
  • Proactively engages in problem solving related to issues rural students face in successfully completing their degree
  • Completes other tasks as assigned


Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in admissions, academic advising, financial aid, counseling, student disability services, or student support services at a university, college or community college
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others through effective oral and written communications
  • Ability to work without supervision, utilizing exceptional organizational and problem- solving skills to deliver quality rural student engagement opportunities



QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
  • Master’s degree preferred
