Coordinator, Fitness Programs II

Job Summary
The Coordinator, Fitness Programs II coordinates the day-to-day operations of fitness programs and services for students, faculty, and staff members consistent with University Recreation & Wellness initiatives. This position is an integral member of the Fitness professional team and assists with personal training, group exercise, program initiatives, and staff management.

Job Description

Typical duties my include but are not limited to:
  • Develops, plans and implements events, programs, meetings, and activities within Fitness Programs.
  • Assists in hiring, supervising, and training of student staff members to include Fitness Attendants, Group Exercise Instructors, and Personal Trainers. Delegates and assigns work, evaluates job performance, and assists with developing staff trainings.
  • Oversees the production of accurate and timely reports. Analyzes and interprets financial information for planning and control purposes.
  • Assists with the implementation of marketing and promotional materials, mailings, and surveys.
  • Collects and analyzes data to assess and evaluate facility usage and programs and initiatives related to Fitness Programs.
  • Schedules facilities for University Recreation & Wellness activities. Conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure safety related to Fitness Programs.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, evaluation, and compliance of risk management procedures.
  • Assists with the oversight and financial management of the Fitness Programs budget. Monitors budget and expenditures within assigned program area. Researches purchase options, reconciles p-card expenditures, and prepares budget requests.
  • Assists with the implementation of various special event programs for department.
  • Assists in establishing and implementing procedures within area of assigned responsibility.


Other Duties:
  • Serves on University Recreation and Wellness work teams and committees as assigned.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or able to obtain within three months of employment.
  • Certification in group exercise and/or personal training as recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Accepted certifications include: ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM, NCCPT, or other meeting the same criteria or able to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Valid driver's license.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or closely related field.
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in higher education campus recreation related to the position.
  • Previous experience in Personal Training including fitness program development, implementation, and management.
  • Experience scheduling and supervising the work of student employees.
  • Experience and proficiency with recreation management software, such as Innosoft Fusion, CSI, or similar.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of personal training, group fitness programming, and fitness and health program implementation.
  • Knowledge of student intellectual, emotional and social development theory, techniques and research.
  • Knowledge of risk management standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles including promotion, fundraising, and public relations.
  • Knowledge of budget control principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Demonstrated skill with scheduling, event planning, and logistics coordination.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of colleagues, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
