Job Summary
The Accounting Manager, Construction & Property oversees the daily operations and activities of the Construction & Property Accounting team. Ensures accurate and compliant accounting practices and timely completion of work. Supervises team within the functional area including resolution of complex issues and training toward the improvement of processes.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Plans, directs, organizes, and schedules the activities of the Construction & Property Accounting team.
  • Supervises a team to accomplish the goals of the functional area. Oversees daily activities, trains on processes, and assists with the resolution of unusual or complex issues.
  • Oversees the annual property inventory process to ensure completion according to timeline goals and resolution of issues.
  • Creates and maintains construction projects and funding sources in Workday; communicates new project information to project users.
  • Oversees the transactional maintenance of construction and property accounts, including daily review of charges in Workday and annual preparation of budgets for Carryforward projects, performing monthly drawdowns and journal entries.
  • Interprets various accounting data, analyzes reports, and recommends and/or initiates actions to be taken.
  • Oversees the production of accurate and timely reports. Prepares reports for meetings with stakeholders. Analyzes and interprets financial information for planning and control purposes.
  • Works with other departments to compile and prepare quarterly reports for various state agencies. Keeps abreast of reporting requirements and provides guidance to departments as needed.
  • Reviews and/or prepares property and construction accounting monthly reconciliations. Ensures timely closeouts and monitoring of transactions in progress. Identifies, evaluates, supports, and solves issues as they arise, including complex problems.
  • Utilizes Workday customization features to create and maintain construction accounting processes, including closeouts and projects, for both common and capital books
  • Assists the Financing Corporations functional area with routine activity and projects, especially time sensitive operations. Transfers funds, completes payments, prepares journal entries, and performs bank and bond account reconciliations.
  • Participates in the planning and administration of departmental and project activities.
  • Assists to establish operational goals and objectives that align with the strategic plan.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and control systems to improve financial operations.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either nine years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional full-time experience in accounting, finance, or closely related field.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) and extensive experience and skill using Excel.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Experience working in construction and property accounting.
  • Related experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with Workday Finance.
  • Experience supervising employees and managing an operational function and workflow.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) as they related to higher education accounting activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
  • Advanced skill in creating and using spreadsheets and workbooks for data collection and use.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to use effective decision making and problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret financial data, prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.


Pay Grade: 18

This position is eligible for Moving Allowance and Sign-On Bonus.
