Job Summary:
Are you skilled at developing giving strategies to engage donors? Are you proactive and results-oriented? Do you have a talent for identifying potential donors to build a strong pipeline? As a part of University Advancement, the Associate Director, Strategic Philanthropy Programs is responsible for building a Milestone Reunion leadership giving program and giving strategies for affinity based giving and micro-campaigns, including developing multi-year pipelines of donors at the 6 figure and up range, increasing giving in milestone reunion years and via affinity campaigns. This position will also carry a discovery portfolio and be responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of individual prospects capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt, benefits eligible position based in Lewisburg, PA. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement and reports to the Director of Development, Strategic Philanthropy Programs & Education.
Job Duties:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Strategy and Affinity Engagement (50%): Develop and
implement 5-year reunion giving strategies with goals for 25th and
50th year reunion cycles and affinity-based programs to elevate
giving. Partner with Estate, Trust & Gift Planning, Center for
Alumni and Family Engagement team and Marketing, Strategy &
Outreach teams on affinity-events and communications with the goal
of connecting alumni to the University for successful and
meaningful experiences. Work closely with volunteers to generate
ideas for fundraising and events. In collaboration with the
Director, Annual Giving, Marketing, Strategy & Outreach secure
match and challenge leadership gifts for Giving Days. Drive
increased philanthropic participation through peer-to-peer
outreach. Analyze and assess the effectiveness of fundraising
efforts utilizing data-driven insights and metrics to optimize
strategies, enhance donor engagement, and maximize
contributions.
- Strategic Philanthropy (25%): Actively qualify and
engage a portfolio of discovery prospects within the reunion cycle
to meet defined metrics Partner with Prospect Management team to
build a robust pipeline for reunion and affinity prospects. Conduct
qualification meetings with prospective donors virtually or via
phone to assess capacity and opportunities for engagement. Refer
leads to Development and Gift Planning regional teams.
- Advisory Boards (15%): Serve as development liaison to
selected academic units, reunion volunteers and University Alumni
Associations. Develop and implement strategies to elevate giving
and strengthen donor pipeline through these partnerships
- Resources (10%): Provide Strategic Philanthropy team
with resources and materials to support affinity and milestone
giving, as well as supporting the department in other overall
fundraising and engagement training. Coordinate closely to ensure
seamless integration and alignment of fundraising efforts with
broader institutional goals and priorities.
This position (and all positions in our division) requires the occasional evening and weekend work to support university events including Homecoming/Family Weekend, Reunion Weekend, and large Career events. We do ask staff to mark their calendars in advance for these events. This position may occasionally coordinate on-campus or off-campus events/activities outside of standard business hours.
We are looking for someone with:
- Bachelor's degree and four years of successful experience in
fundraising, sales, or related field or an equivalent combination
of education and experience
- Demonstrates practical application and experience with
technology such as database functions/reports, and Microsoft Office
Suite, and Google Suite
- Demonstrable track record of creative and collaborative
strategy that results in successful closures of gifts/sales/related
experience or in building relationships
- Demonstrated ability to use metrics to drive
performance
The Associate Director, Strategic Philanthropy Programs demonstrates strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality inside and outside of UA. They also demonstrate an ability to function independently yet relate comfortably to a multifaceted fundraising environment, participating in and contributing to a total team effort. This position may require travel, including air travel and travel to major metropolitan areas
And who also has (preferred):
- Major gift experience with a successful track record of closing
six- and seven-figure gifts in a higher education
setting
- Demonstrates working knowledge of the field of gift planning,
including gifts of complex assets, gift vehicles offered by the
University, federal and state tax considerations surrounding
charitable giving, and the financial considerations involved in
administering planned gifts
- Proven track record of successful multi-project management
experience

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
