Whitworth University invites applications for the position of Director of Athletics, a senior leadership position reporting to the President. The university seeks a leader of its intercollegiate athletics programs who will work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff across the Whitworth community to advance its excellent athletics programs, recruit and retain exceptional coaches and staff, and promote the academic achievement and physical well-being of student-athletes. The Director of Athletics will work with the President and other senior administrators to support the overall mission and vision of Whitworth University.


Founded in 1890, Whitworth has been consistently ranked among the top regional colleges and universities in the West. In its strong liberal arts undergraduate education and graduate programs, Whitworth combines its Christian heritage, its commitment to academic rigor, and its long-standing orientation toward human service. The Whitworth University Athletics Department strives for excellence on our fields and courts, as well as in the classroom, always aiming for the proper balance between student and athlete.  Whitworth is a member of the NCAA at the Division III level and is part of the Northwest Conference, an association of nine private institutions in Washington and Oregon.  The Pirates have consistently finished among the top 10 percent of schools in the NCAA Division III Learfield Directors Cup Standings.  In addition, Whitworth has won the NWC McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy for six consecutive years.  Over the course of those years, Pirate athletic teams have claimed 40 Northwest Conference team championships.  More than 50 Whitworth student-athletes were recognized by outside organizations for academic success in 2012-13.  The athletics department is led by a group of 13 veteran and highly decorated head coaches, several of whom are also active and respected members of the Whitworth faculty. 


Finally, the Whitworth community celebrates and encourages the success of its student-athletes by supporting them at home events.  Pirate teams have regularly placed among the national leaders in home attendance at the Division III level.
