Salary Range: The Administrator III (12-Month) classification salary is $75,000 - $240,000/per year. The anticipated hiring range is $150,000 to $176,000/per year (Commensurate with qualifications and experience).

The College of Education at CSULB seeks an Associate Dean to work with the college leaders, staff, faculty and students to provide transparent and equity-minded leadership. The College serves approximately 3,000 students, many of whom are the first in their families to pursue college degrees. Our academic programs range from undergraduate, to master's and doctoral degrees, and education credentials that prepare candidates for careers in diverse, urban educational settings. In total, the college offers 25 academic degrees and credentials, making it one of the largest colleges of education within the CSU system. With a low student to faculty ratio of 1:21, and strong, individualized advising from faculty and staff, students receive the support and attention needed to successfully complete their degree on time. The College of Education is embarking on its new strategic plan to lead in the practice of urban education, with aspirations to consider the impact of social landscapes on education, design curricula that expands the capacity of urban education, advance dimensions of wellness, develop and sustain deep partnerships, enrich clinical practice, and influence policy reform and engage in advocacy at multiple levels. All are guided by making visible equity, diversity and inclusion in urban education to confront white supremacy, while centering students. We look forward to finding a colleague who will collaborate in developing partnerships and accountability structures to address racist and unjust policies, practices, and programs and ensure students, faculty, and students are empowered for success.

Required Qualifications
  • Appropriate terminal degree, with successful university teaching experience, service, and a record of scholarly/creative activity suitable for a tenured, full professor faculty appointment in one of the College of Education's departments
  • Administrative experience at the level of Department Chair, Assistant Department Chair, Program Coordinator, Assistant or Associate Dean, Director, Program Manager, or related demonstrated leadership experience
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for faculty, staff, and students, including working successfully with culturally and ethnically diverse student, faculty, and staff populations
  • Commitment to and experience with shared governance, including faculty, staff, and student engagement
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership, mentoring, and management skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Innovation in leading student success efforts to attract and retain diverse students
  • Experience with successful internal and external partnerships e.g., interdisciplinary programs, community engagement, PK-16 partners, etc.
  • Experience with continuous improvement systems and strategies that promote anti-racism and center equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • A record of fostering collaboration in curriculum and program development related to equity and justice in urban education
  • Experience in mentoring faculty at all ranks (e.g., on instruction, grant development, scholarship)
  • Leadership of faculty development activities
  • Demonstrated experience with personnel issues and collective bargaining environments
  • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties

The Associate Dean assume a range of duties as a key member of the leadership team of the College of Education with specific responsibilities in areas that may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Support undergraduate, credential, and/or graduate programs
  • Curriculum development and instructional leadership
  • Faculty development and success
  • Professional learning for equity in Urban Education
  • Grant development and implementation
  • Faculty research
  • Success of diverse students
  • Community engagement
  • Institutional effectiveness leadership (assessment, state and/or national accreditation processes, enrollment management)
  • Advancement and development activities
  • Identifying and remediating systemic processes and policies in the College that create barriers to success for all students, faculty and staff, especially those who are minoritized in higher education.

    The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interests on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and take this training every other year thereafter.

    Background Check

    A background check (including a criminal records check and telephone reference check with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.     General Information

    The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment. All management and executive employees shall be required to provide a written statement to the appropriate administrator of any and all outside employment at the time of hire or appointment and annually thereafter. Employees shall also provide a written statement of outside employment if a written request by an administrator is made.
