California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is a comprehensive public university that is widely recognized for its polytechnic mission and experiential education philosophy. Reporting to the Executive Director of Admissions and Outreach, the Director of Admissions provides strategic leadership and day-to-day management of admissions functions, policies, and procedures in support of the universitys enrollment goals. The Director develops systems and services to ensure transparent and fair standards to evaluate students for admission, to communicate university enrollment opportunities, and to position Cal Poly Pomona as a top-choice institution for college enrollment. The office reviews transcripts and other academic documents for authenticity and adherence to regulations, and emphasizes the efficient use of technology to streamline admissions processes. The Director utilizes sound judgment to interpret and implement federal, state, California State University, and university policies, and the position sets controls for data integrity, internal and system-wide statistical reporting, audits, and qualitative analysis. The Director provides robust staff management by defining the duties and responsibilities of staff, assessing performance and providing feedback, designing training and staff development, and ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable union contracts. The Director assists the Enrollment Services management team with long-range planning and goal setting, contributes to division-wide initiatives, and instills a culture of continuous improvement within the admissions office. The position oversees a staff of 16 professional and union employees, and manages an annual operating budget of approximately $500,000.
A bachelors degree (masters preferred) and eight years of progressive responsibilities in admissions, including five years of staff supervision, is required. Successful candidates will also demonstrate a strong record of administration including assessment, strategic planning, and the ability to manage systemic change; an executive management style and the ability to think in a progressive and collaborative manner; experience in admissions planning and the administration of admissions operational processes; the ability to utilize technology to manage queries and analyze data from an integrated student database, and the capacity to develop reports to support the institutions strategic enrollment management goals; expertise in staff management, supervision, training, and professional development; a strong service orientation in working with students, parents, academic deans, and a broad array of university stakeholder groups; the ability to sustain and expand a campus community that values and promotes diversity, with a demonstrated commitment to access and equity; excellent written and oral communication skills and outstanding interpersonal skills; the capacity to effectively present and articulate complex requirements and policies concerning admissions; the ability to be resourceful, take initiative, work independently, and use good judgment in planning, budgeting, and implementing work strategies and programs; and knowledge of enrollment management/admissions issues, policies, trends, and best practices.
