The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) and the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies (AADS) invite applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor to begin fall 2014. CMAS and AADS are seeking a scholar who focuses on Ethnography, Oral History, or Folklore in Latina/o and Mexican American communities in the Midwest or among urban populations. Candidates who will draw on the resources held in the Benson Latin American Collection or who can strengthen the connections between Black and Latina/o Studies are especially desirable.
The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching, cultural studies, and/or theory in a comparative framework and have a strong or promising record of publication, as well as a clearly defined research agenda. Must be committed to developing innovative undergraduate and graduate courses and programs and will be expected to teach a full course load of two courses each long session semester. The selected candidate should have a Ph.D. in hand in Anthropology, History, Folklore, Ethnic Studies, Women’s Studies, or a related field; demonstrate a successful publishing and research trajectory; and have a solid record as an effective classroom teacher or a teaching philosophy helping to ensure success in the classroom.
Duties to include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, development of a strong research program, directing graduate research, and service to the department, college and university. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. Position funding is pending budgetary approval.
