Responsibilities include strategic planning and academic operations for the college, including management of staff and faculty, development of academic programs, delivery of student services, oversight of facilities, development of research, and fiscal management. As its chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean is responsible for appointment of chairs and school directors, as well as advancing the college's academic mission within the college community and the University at large, advocating for the central role of the college in research, teaching, and service, and providing leadership for the liberal arts at the state, regional, and national levels.

The next Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will inherit a thriving and complex college that offers an exciting platform for impact. The Dean will be a powerful public voice for the importance of the liberal arts and will have a significant influence on the larger trajectory of the University.
