Duties & Responsibilities The Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) since its founding one hundred years ago has been a pioneer in graduate level education in public health.  This tradition has continued most recently with the School offering one of the first two edX courses at Harvard.  As the School marks its centennial we are in the process of implementing our new educational strategy that includes new and redesigned degree programs at the master's and doctoral degree level as well as major initiatives on executive and continuing education. This is a very exciting time in education at HSPH and we seek an innovative and entrepreneurial individual to join our team as the Director of Online Education. The Director reports to the Associate Dean for Strategic Educational Initiatives at HSPH.

The Director will play a key leadership role in the successful implementation of the School's online educational strategy.  To this end, the Director will assess, make recommendations, and implement innovative models of online and blended learning. This position guides the development of online curriculum and assessment technique to ensure an exceptional experience for learners and a supportive environment for faculty teaching in this environment. The Director will build a system for ongoing quality improvements through course and program evaluation as well as design and teaching faculty workshops on different aspects of online course components. This position involves extensive collaboration within HSPH and across Harvard units committed to innovative pedagogy and online learning.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
*Assess innovative models of online and blended learning and make recommendations for HSPH
*Develop a comprehensive strategic plan for online and blended learning at HSPH
*Design and implement models of online and blended learning
*Oversight of the development of online curriculum and assessments within the program
*Design and implement evaluation and assessment of individual programs and overall online and blended learning at HSPH
*Work collaboratively with faculty, academic leaders, program administrators, instructional designers and committees in the design, implementation, and assessment of online and blended learning
*Develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external clients including participation in University committees regarding online, blended learning, and HarvardX
*Supervise instructional designers and technologists and other staff for online and blended learning
*Establish standardized policies and procedures for faculty engagement,  processes, needs assessments, product design, development and delivery, and evaluation
*Provide faculty development workshops in online teaching and learning
*Provide guidance and vision for the development of online and blended learning
*Effectively manage all operations of the online and blended learning unit

Basic Qualifications *A master's degree and significant experience developing online learning

*Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing, developing and implementing diverse learning styles

*5-10 years of experience in management/leadership

*Experience leveraging research in learning science to create the next generation of high-impact learning environments

*Experience designing and implementing innovative approaches to educator development

*Experience developing and monitoring systems on academic quality, student engagement and student success in higher education

*Proven ability to manage multiple projects while delivering high quality

*Experience with current and emerging technology tools and platforms that will transform the delivery of learning products of the future

*Solid understanding of evidence-based education, cognitive learning theory, and instructional design
