The primary goal of this position is to advocate for Partners of the Americas mission and help the organization to grow in the United States, Latin America, and Caribbean (LAC). The Director of Development is a key organizational leader and reports to the Vice President of Organization Advancement Department. He/She will lead key elements of the department’s work to expand giving from institutional and individual donors.  As the team and the organization are growing quickly, the Director of Development will participate in donor/prospect engagement, including donor communications, production of cultivation events (e.g., virtual, informal gatherings, and large-scale events), and managing, building ties with new prospects, and donors & strengthening internal fundraising processes as we continue to expand operations in the United States and LAC. As a Director of Development, this individual will be responsible for developing a comprehensive knowledge of Partners funding priorities and will present the case of the organization for support from individuals, foundation leaders, and corporate representatives. The Director of Development will participate in the planning of major development events. Also, will maintain a database system to record progress with donors and prospect management. Additionally, he/she will work with other Partners units, stakeholders, and administrators to manage a portfolio of prospects and will identify and create strategies for outreach, approach, and stewardship. The skillset for this job includes communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical skills and must be familiar with using data analytics tools. This individual must bring to the organization a network of contacts and potential donors primarily in the United States.

Roles and Responsibilities  

  • Partner with the VP, Organizational Advancement to set priorities and goals for the department.
  • Develop and execute Partners of the Americas’ annual fundraising plan.
  • Manage operations for the development team, including setting time and task management, data oversight, and budgeting.
  • Serve as grant writer for private foundation, corporate, and individual grants, in the United States and LAC.
  • Write reports, and funder briefs.
  • Achieve monthly targets on institutional donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities and keep accurate engagement records.
  • Manage, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects at the mid-level and major donor levels.
  • Coordinate with the Communications team direct marketing efforts, including multiple direct mail/email appeals annually and digital communication to donors and prospects.
  • Help ensure proper reporting for foundations and private donors.
  • Lead internal and external presentations.
  • Lead implementation of donor tracking platform and coordinate with staff responsible for data management.
  • Build out programs and events as a member of the development team.
  • Lead planning for Partners’ special events, and virtual events

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years professional fundraising experience, preferably in an internationally focused nonprofit organization is a plus.
  • Master’s degree MBA, International Relations, Non-Profit Management and Leadership, etc.
  • Experience identifying, cultivating, and securing minimum of a 6 to 7 figure gifts and setting departmental and individual fundraising goals, ensuring clear lines of communications and processes, and demonstrating results.
  • Proven solid experience as grant writer for private foundation, corporate, and individual grants.
  • Experience developing and maintaining productive working relationships with donors, volunteers, and program and administrative staff.
  • Experience with donor database platforms.
  • Certified Fundraising Professional preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Comfort with managing up and communicating your ideas and recommendations clearly and convincingly.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to offer both creative and data-driven solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail, both in planning and execution.

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office 365 or similar Google applications; email marketing platforms; constituent relationship management systems; and social media and digital advertising platforms.
  • Excellent people and project management skills.
  • Confident in managing high level internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple time-sensitive projects under tight deadlines.
  • Integrity and commitment to Partners’ mission.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
