Job Description: The University of FloridaCollege of Medicine located in Gainesville, Florida invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Anesthesiology. The Department of Anesthesiology recently celebrated its 52nd anniversary as an academic department, and employs 250 individuals in a robust pursuit of three missions: clinical service, education, and research. This is an academic department that typically publishes at least one book and more than 50 manuscripts and book chapters, and is granted at least four U.S. patents each year. The 70 faculty cover every clinical subspecialty of anesthesiology in our complex academic health center, which has the 8th highest acuity amongst UHC hospitals. Department anesthesiologists are assisted by 78 resident physicians, 14 fellows, and 39 CRNA/AAs provide anesthetic, pain, and perioperative services in a tertiary care environment at a number of locations in the UF Health organization, which includes UF Health Shands Hospital, UF Health Shands Children's Hospital, as well as at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. The research interests of the faculty span the clinical, translational, and basic science spectrum with an emphasis on neurosciences and innovation. Working together, these professionals fulfill the departmentcore mission: To provide an environment that develops great physician leaders through education, research, innovation, and the care of our patients and each other. Additional information about the Department of Anesthesiology is available at Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine, the chair is responsible for the overall administrative, academic, and clinical outcomes of the department. The new department chair will join a collegial, highly respected leadership team and will play an instrumental role in continuing to sustain and grow an excellent department in clinical quality, research and education.
Minimum Requirements: POSITION QUALIFICATIONS\: UF seeks an accomplished academician and clinician with an M.D. from an accredited medical school, current ABA board certification, has or is eligible for a Florida medical license and appropriate academic qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor. Candidates must possess a strong record of progressive operational, administrative, and leadership experience along with strong interpersonal and communication skills that complement a passion for excellence and achievement. The successful candidate also must possess a vision to assure the department grows in rank and reputation and be actively involved in professional societies and physician organizations.
