Food Service Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary
The Food Service Maintenance Mechanic troubleshoots, repairs and provides preventative maintenance of all university owned commercial food service equipment to ensure cost-effective, safe, and efficient operation.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all commercial food service equipment including, but not limited to, gas (LP), electrical, plumbing of refrigeration and non-refrigeration commercial cooking equipment.
  • Develops a routine preventative maintenance program for all university owned food service equipment. Performs all preventative maintenance as assigned.
  • Develops a service record system to document maintenance and repairs on all university owned food service equipment. Accurately maintains electronic records.
  • Develops a food service equipment, parts, and supplies inventory system. Maintains an inventory of supplies to ensure timely repairs on equipment.
  • Orders parts and supplies in accordance with university purchasing guidelines.
  • Conducts in-service staff training on proper cleaning and daily maintenance of equipment.
  • Assists with routine and preventative repairs and maintenance in other skilled trades as needed.
  • Responds to emergency and after-hours food service equipment failures to ensure continuation of service operations as needed.
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires a high school diploma and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Full-time experience with commercial food service equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas stoves and ovens, steamers, warmers, and fryers.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • CFESA certification.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of gas operated equipment, electrical systems, plumbing, refrigeration and a variety of cooking equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety practices and OSHA regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and community members in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to understand equipment specifications and requirements from construction blueprints, drawings and plans.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, draw valid conclusions, and develop appropriate alternatives where applicable.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, logs, and files.
  • Ability to effectively and accurately explain to users how to properly operate equipment.
