Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description:

The Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades manages and leads an instructional area that includes the following programs within the Division of Instruction: Entrepreneurism and Marketing, Business Administration, Agriculture Systems, Manufacturing Trades, Enology and Viticulture, Culinary, and Transportation Trades, including the Applied Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degrees. The Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades supervises several direct reports, including: an administrative assistant, program chairs, faculty (full-time and adjunct), and instructional support staff. The Dean is a service-oriented leader who is skilled in relationship and partnership building, as the position supports instructional operations across multiple programs and sites, as well as establishes and fosters offsite opportunities. The Dean of Workforce collaborates effectively and efficiently with other instructional deans: Dean of Access & Opportunity, Dean of Nursing & Allied Health, Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dean of Corrections Education, and Dean of Clarkston Campus.

Essential Functions:

The following functions and responsibilities are accomplished by working with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT), as well as chairs, coordinators, faculty, and staff in the Transfer and Trades Area:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provides college-wide transformative leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the Workforce Transfer and Trades Area, in alignment with the institution's mission, vision, guiding principles and accrediting bodies
  • Supervises and manages the following programs: Entrepreneurism and Marketing, Business Administration, Agriculture Systems, Manufacturing Trades, Enology and Viticulture, Culinary, and Transportation Trades
  • Builds cohesion between the Workforce Transfer and Trades programs, creating wrap-around support for programs across divisions
  • Develops and maintains relationships across areas and with community partners, such as local school district leaders, to ensure ongoing cooperation and collaboration
  • Implements a continuous improvement culture that leverages course survey data, quality assurance feedback, faculty and instructor feedback, and other sources of input
  • Establishes and implements the Area's mission, vision, and guiding principles to ensure alignment with the institution's Strategic Plan
  • Collaborates with other instructional areas, i.e., Arts & Sciences, Nursing and Allied Health, Access & Opportunity, Corrections Education, and Clarkston Campus
  • Manages, schedules, supervises, and evaluates all Area employees, i.e., faculty and staff; leads probationary and tenured-faculty evaluation committees and supports onboarding of new area employees
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction, develops and implements policies and procedures that lead to quality instruction and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and interagency regulations, e.g., the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)
  • Builds relationships with faculty and staff to effectively and efficiently administer institutional projects, grants, and initiatives
  • Participates in and provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in the Workforce Transfer and Trades Area
  • Serves as the College's Chief Professional Technical Administrator

  • Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Prepares recommendations for and administers the area's budget; oversees all expenditures for goods, services, and personnel
  • Provides management oversight for all existing area grants, in consultation and collaboration with the Business Office

  • Assorted Responsibilities
  • Remains current in national, regional, and local trends related to workforce transfer programs
  • Develops a technologically integrated environment, in collaboration with Technology Services, that fosters an environment of continuous innovation within a rural community college
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to promote programs within the area
  • Seeks out opportunities for new programs, collaborations, partnerships, and grants in collaboration with the Vice President of Instruction
  • Leads and supports faculty and staff in efforts to promote equity and diversity through instruction and programming
  • Promotes sustainable opportunities for instructional wrap-around services in support of student retention and completion

  • Institutional and Community Service
  • Participates on college committees, such as the VPI Leadership Team
  • Represents WWCC by attending standing meetings of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) in related areas
  • Serves as the College representative on the Workforce Development Council
  • Provides leadership and mentorship for faculty
  • Participates in college activities, including Commencement ceremonies

  • Required Qualifications:
    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.

  • Master's degree in applicable disciplines from an accredited institution
  • Three years' teaching experience in a higher education setting (full-time or equivalent); teaching experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count toward the requirement
  • Three years' experience in higher education leadership (Assistant Dean, Department Chair, Director, etc.) or equivalent leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience in grant acquisition and management
  • Demonstrated experience, passion and commitment for addressing diversity, inclusion, and equity issues and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities, cultures, and viewpoints
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities: in person, online, hybrid, web- or technology-enhanced, synchronous or asynchronous
  • Proficient in various technology systems, such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms), Cloud-based platforms (PeopleSoft, CANVAS)

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate Degree in an applicable discipline from an accredited institution
  • Five years' teaching experience in a higher education setting (full-time or equivalent)
  • Bilingual, especially in Spanish/English
  • Experience with higher education accreditation, articulation, and program review
  • Budget development and management experience
  • Experience with the Northwest Commission on College and Universities (NWCCU), National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP), and/or NC-SARA reporting and standards
  • Five years of experience in higher education leadership (Department Chair, Director, etc.)

    Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time administrative professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.

    Work setting is primarily indoors with standard office equipment and no expected exposure to hazards. This position will typically work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work is common. Out of town travel required; regular visits to the College's other campuses required (Clarkston, and Correction Education sites - Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (Connell) and Washington State Penitentiary (Walla Walla). Some travel required to community partner sites (high schools, community organizations, etc.). Frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, members of the community, and community partners

    Compensation:

    Annual salary range: $105,000- $110,000. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
