Job Summary
The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering (COE) is seeking applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in September 2024. The Civil Engineering program was established in 2005 on the main campus in Tyler, TX. In 2013, the College of Engineering inaugurated the Houston Engineering Center (HEC) on the Alief-Hayes Campus of Houston Community College, offering junior, senior, and graduate-level courses in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and construction management. This faculty member's location will be on the main campus in Tyler, TX.
We are particularly interested in applicants whose experience, practice, and/or research have the potential to enhance the sustainability of the built environment and stewardship of natural resources. Our primary consideration for this position will be given to candidates focusing on Environmental, Geo-Environmental, and/or Geotechnical Engineering.
The application review will commence on January 1, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.
Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Teach graduate and undergraduate classes.
- Engage in departmental, college, university, and/or professional service.
- Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program.
Required Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or a closely related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- A P.E. license in the United States or a P.Eng. license

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
