The School of Education invites applications for an Academic Director position at the University of Cincinnati, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH). This staff position will begin May 2014 and have administrative and teaching responsibilities for the Center for English as a Second Language (ESL). This position calls for an individual with expertise in developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in ESL and TESL, assessing international language tests (TOEFL, IELTS), developing and evaluating in-house language tests, supervising and mentoring pre- and in-service ESL instructors, and communicating with students and academic personnel in an international context. The successful candidate will take administrative responsibilities for the Center for English as a Second Language and teach courses in ESL. Duties for the position include developing programs and courses that complement and enhance the existing ESL curriculum, imitating and participating in projects in relevant fields, supervising and mentoring CESL instructors, and communicating and advising ESL students. Salary is competitive and dependent upon preparation and experience.  


Job Description: Duties must be directly related to conducting, directing, or assisting in an academic program or academic unit, or directing or assisting with the direction of an academic advising office or center. The position must have primary responsibility for the administration of the program or unit. These duties must comprise of at least 75% or more of the work assigned to the position.

(Administrative work elements are considered secondary, non-academic, and must not exceed 25% of the work assigned.)

(Academic director positions located in an academic department or academic unit may use this title as a secondary appointment for faculty members serving as directors. Such appointments would remain secondary to the faculty appointment.)

Minimum Qualifications: Academic positions will require specific educational credentials and experience related to the program for which the position is responsible.  


Position Qualification: An earned Masters degree in a related field with at least three years of administrative and teaching experience in English/Foreign Languages.
