The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) and the African and African Diaspora Studies Department (AADS) invite applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor to begin fall 2014. Seeking scholar who focuses on economic development in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean and its intersections with conditions of racial or ethnic inequality. This core area of expertise could also be articulated with other specializations, including (but not limited to): community organization and movements; environmental governance and justice; planning for community development; interface between local organizations and states or dominant institutions; grassroots and/or autonomous economic strategies; and development policies and their critics. The successful candidate must be committed to developing innovative undergraduate and graduate courses and programs and will be expected to teach a full course load, including at least one general course on processes of economic development in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, alternating between the graduate and undergraduate levels. Teaching and service commitments will be divided between the AADS department and Latin American Studies program. The selected candidate should have a Ph.D. in hand, demonstrate a successful publishing and research trajectory, and have a solid record as an effective classroom teacher or a teaching philosophy helping to ensure success in the classroom. Although this position will reside in the AADS department, it will join a vibrant inter- disciplinary intellectual community in Latin American and Diaspora Studies. Duties include: teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, developing a strong research program, demonstrating evidence of successful research productivity, directing graduate research, and exhibiting a commitment to service to the department, institute, college, and university. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. Position funding is pending budgetary approval.
