SUMMARY

GRCC is seeking a Program Director for the Nursing Program. The Program Director is responsible for both the Associates Degree and Practical Nursing programs, as well as work associated with the School of Health Sciences. Duties include curriculum design and development; instruction, recruitment, and advisement of students; budgeting; management of faculty (full time and adjunct); and participation in college committees and professional development activities. The Program Director is responsible for maintaining program accreditation requirements. In addition to the essential functions listed below, it is expected that faculty demonstrate outstanding communication skills, effective collaboration skills, personal initiative in problem-solving abilities, and time management. The Program Director should possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability; engaging in and developing innovative teaching strategies; effectively assessing student learning outcomes; demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; emphasizing an inclusive and positive work culture; and, providing service to our students, the college, and the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide leadership for the day-to-day operation of the Nursing Programs.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Programs and the College by representing the department as a liaison and facilitator in college wide committee work, program planning, and other disciplines.
  • The Program Director will represent the nursing programs at college-related activities and liaison between students, the administration, faculty, other staff and the public.
  • Provide support to faculty to assist them in their efforts to achieve the optimal learning environment for GRCC's nursing students.
  • Oversee Nursing Program committees and plan monthly department meetings with faculty and staff.
  • Plan and prepare the master schedule of nursing program classes, registration of students and enrollment maintenance of all classes in the nursing programs.
  • Schedule clinical sites, assign faculty to teach nursing courses, as prescribed by the college policies and the Faculty Agreement.
  • Oversee curriculum development activities within the department to ensure compatibility with College curriculum goals, College mission, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and the Michigan Board of Nursing.
  • Assume responsibilities for maintaining nursing programs accreditations.
  • Supervise the management of Educational Development Plans for students and evaluate credits/placement of transfer students.
  • Communicate with prospective and current students including appointments, phone conversations, written responses and processing of appeals.
  • Work with the Dean of the School of Health Sciences in creating annual proposals for Perkins and other special funding opportunities.
  • Manage the annual budgets and expenditures for the Nursing Programs.
  • Assist the Associate Dean in the hiring of full time faculty to teach courses in both the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree nursing programs.
  • Recruit, hire, and assign adjunct faculty to teach in both the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree nursing programs as needed each semester.
  • Prepare reports, certify graduates, seek approvals and otherwise maintain appropriate relationships and memberships with the Michigan Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Maintain existing community relationships and create new opportunities for growth.
  • Serve as the liaison and key contact for student clinical placements and community organizations related to the Nursing Programs.
  • Maintain memberships and take an active part in local, state, and national organizations related to nursing education.
  • Work with the program support staff and health programs admissions coordinator to fill each year's student cohort.
  • Develop and monitor admission requirements, pre-licensure testing, filing reports, and analysis of data for use in on-going program improvement.
  • Create, coordinate and implement nursing student orientation programs.
  • Oversee the Nursing Programs' Advisory Committee and maintain a diverse membership with broad community representation.
  • Work with and utilize college resources to develop continuing education and professional development courses as needed.
  • Supervise Nursing Programs' Educational Support Professionals and Student Intake Specialist.
  • Strong advocate for both Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing Programs.
  • Opportunities to teach both clinical and didactic nursing courses.
  • Other duties as assigned.



JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education Credentials
  • Masters Degree in Nursing required.
  • Current Michigan nursing licensure required.

Work Experience
  • Minimum of two full-time years/4000 hours of clinical experience in nursing required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time didactic and clinical experience in an accredited nursing program required.
  • Experience in both Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs strongly preferred.
  • Community College teaching experience is preferred.

  • Must be able to meet clinical facility requirements such as current immunizations, BLS and annual TB screening, when appropriate.
  • Must be able to travel to off campus clinical settings.
  • Must be able to work in a classroom and laboratory in an academic setting well as external clinical sites.
  • Ability to work in high traffic, in-door environments.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
