Position Summary:
This position is responsible for providing journeyman-level work on plumbing and related mechanical systems for university facilities. The position will coordinate work efforts with the shop supervisor, building users and other trade groups. It will respond to, diagnose and resolve plumbing emergencies.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:
  • Install, maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures, systems and related equipment
  • Test backflow assemblies and record results
  • Install gas, compressed air, piping and insulation
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs to safety systems
  • Maintain sewer pipes and clear blockages
  • Winterize systems subject to freezing temperatures
  • Test and record water quality in swimming pools
  • Maintain and operate programmable controls for water treatment systems
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • None



  • Working as a plumber following National codes applicable to plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and experience in a variety of maintenance tasks (e.g., carpentry, construction and electrical trades)
  • Aquatic Facility Operator certification
  • State of Idaho HVAC Journeyman’s license in accordance with Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 50


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Must be able to:
  • Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
  • Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
  • Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Work in inclement weather conditions
  • Participate in a medical surveillance program and respirator fit test
