Job Description: The University of Florida, College of Medicine, is seeking candidates for a new position and joint appointment as Deputy Director Medical Services, University of Florida Health Cancer Center (UFHCC); and Associate Professor/Professor in a UF surgical specialty. Appropriate candidates could also be considered for joint appointment as Chief, Surgical Oncology. Serving cancer care providers across UF Health and Orlando Health, the UFHCC strives to provide an integrated, multidisciplinary care experience to patients referred from throughout the state of Florida, south Georgia, and from around the world. Focused on continually improving clinical quality and the patient experience, UFHCC also coordinates basic cancer research throughout the University of Florida and incorporation of those findings into groundbreaking, clinical research through the UFHCC clinical trials office and UF Clinical Translational Science Institute. Reporting primarily to the Director, UFHCC, UF Health expects that the candidate will commit 70 percent time to duties of deputy director and 30 percent time to clinical and/or research service. The exact distribution will be tailored to the candidate at the time of appointment. As Deputy Director Medical Services, the candidate will bring significant leadership experience in an academic medical setting demonstrating ability to lead quality improvement, lead multidisciplinary integration of clinical services, support enhancement of clinical and translational research, and provide clinical direction to cancer outreach and affiliation activities. The Deputy Director will demonstrate ability to create and communicate a vision to all cancer service providers while building a high quality, multidisciplinary program through a collaborative, focused, and energetic management style. Also reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer, UF Health; President, UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health; and the Senior Associate Dean and CEO for University of Florida Physicians; the Deputy Director will support continuous improvement of clinical services within the UF Health Shands Hospital and Orlando Health, and business operations of the University of Florida Physicians. The Deputy Director will serve as a member of the UFHCC leadership team comprised of the Director, deputy directors for Research and Clinical Operations, and Associate Director for Business and Finance. The UF Health Cancer Center is comprised of two campuses: the University of Florida/UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and Orlando Health, Orlando. UFHCC is comprised of 160 oncology dedicated physicians practicing at the 940 bed UF Health Shands Hospital and 1400 bed Orlando Health.
Minimum Requirements: The successful candidate will be board certified in an appropriate surgical specialty with additional fellowship training and commitment to the development of an academic career through research, teaching and maintaining an active clinical practice and\/or funded research portfolio. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in surgical care of malignancy and related benign conditions, strong potential for extramurally funded research, and clear commitment to student and resident education.
