POSITION: Chair, Department of Family and Child Sciences, College of Human Sciences, Florida State University. Position is nine-month tenure-track with flexible summer administrative and teaching employment in the department. The chair position includes a faculty appointment with a rank of full professor. Senior associate professors are also encouraged to apply.


RESPONSIBILITIES: The Chair of the Department of Family and Child Sciences provides leadership for the department. The chair upholds the university's commitment to faculty governance and serves as the administrative representative of the department on various university and college committees. The chair is expected to contribute to the scholarly activity of the department, including teaching, research, and service. Responsibilities include providing direction for undergraduate and graduate programs, personnel and fiscal management, and external development.


QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have the following qualifications: earned doctorate in one of the areas of study within the department or related area; academic credentials eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of full professor; record of significant accomplishments in research; demonstrated experience in grant, contract, or project activities; and successful experiences in administration, graduate education, and faculty development.


THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Family and Child Sciences currently has 12 faculty, 550 undergraduate students, and 40 Masters/Ph.D. students. Our programs focus on child development, family processes, and empirically supported relationship interventions. Specifically, our research, teaching, and service activities reflect our three program foci: Relational development and enhancement in young adults, couples, and families; distressed families and relational interventions; and the link between parenting processes and relational outcomes. In addition to our undergraduate program offered in both traditional and online formats, we offer a masters program and two doctoral degree programs, one in Human Sciences with an emphasis in Family Relations and one in Marriage and Family Therapy. THE COLLEGE OF HUMAN SCIENCES, which began in 1905, is the flagship program in Human Sciences in Florida and has as its mission to address global challenges and opportunities related to the physical, behavioral, and economic factors influencing the health and development of individuals, families, and communities. The College is comprised of three departments, the Department of Nutrition, Food, and Exercise Sciences, the Department of Family and Child Sciences, and the Department of Retail Merchandising, and Product Development.
