German: The University of Minnesota, Morris seeks an Assistant Professor/Lecturer or Teaching Specialist of German Studies; full-time, three-year temporary position with plans for a subsequent tenure-track search contingent upon funding and final approval, beginning August 11, 2014. Area of specialty is open, with preference given to scholars with post-1750 specialization and experience with film and media studies or linguistics. Candidate should possess an enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts atmosphere. Native or near-native fluency in German and English is required. Ph.D. in German or German Studies by date of appointment preferred; ABDs in German or German Studies will be considered. Candidates holding the degree of Ph.D. will be appointed as assistant professor/lecturer; ABDs will be appointed as teaching specialist. University-level language-teaching experience preferred; experience in a liberal arts environment preferred. The successful candidate must be committed to productive scholarship as well as to the programmatic development of the new UMM interdisciplinary German Studies major. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in their pedagogy; familiarity using technology in SLA is desirable. Service and outreach to the university, community, and profession are essential. Six courses per academic year teaching language literature and culture courses at all undergraduate levels. A demonstrated commitment to scholarly achievement is required.
