General Summary: The UPMC McKeesport Scholars Program Coordinator will assist with students at three different levels: High School, Pre-Health Careers, and those currently enrolled in a Nursing and/or Allied Health Careers Program at CCAC. In the High Schools, the UPMC McKeesport will collaborate with High School representatives to recruit and establish pathways to stimulate an interest in the health-related fields.

Many of the Pre- Health Career and enrolled students may be academically and psycho-socially challenged to actively and successfully negotiate systems that drive post-secondary education environments and must be supported with referrals to the College's established early intervention initiatives that will provide on-going and consistent academic support and counseling services in order to increase student success. The Program Coordinator will help students to successfully navigate through each phase of the program, from enrollment in the program through graduation. The Program Coordinator will plan and implement recruitment strategies and retention training sessions to include but not limited to resilience training, test-taking strategies, problematic content areas, and student success strategies. In addition, the Program Coordinator will provide personalized retention interventions and monitors students weekly to provide life-skills strategies to help students achieve success. In addition, the Program Coordinator will provide regular progress updates on the students to UPMC McKeesport and CCAC program leadership.

The Program Coordinator serves as an official representative of CCAC and as such, shall promote a positive first impression by adopting and demonstrating a collegial, client-relations based approach to students, faculty/staff, employers, and other stakeholders within the College community and our partner organizations.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education. Three years' experience providing instruction and/or counseling to adult learners in a higher education setting. Preference may be given for knowledge or experience working in academia or as a health care employee working in the targeted community. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.

All candidates must submit clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.

Candidates must sit for the Mandatory Reporter Training of three continuing credit units (CEUs) offered through the University of Pittsburgh.

Duties:

1. Collaborate with the Nursing and Allied Health Administration, Enrollment Services, and the Registration and Advisement Offices in assisting students through the enrollment process including completing the admissions application, placement testing, registration, orientation and post-orientation programs with accepted students in the UPMC McKeesport Scholars Program. To that end, will meet with students on an on-going basis to ensure that students understand the expectations of the program and adhere to programmatic requirements.

2. Coordinate with the High School representatives in the McKeesport and Mon Valley communities to establish program offerings to stimulate an interest in Nursing and Allied Health Careers and recruit potential students.

3. Plan and coordinate the UPMC McKeesport Scholars Program Advisory Council meetings for a minimum of four times a year.

4. Assist students to develop a plan of study based on placement testing results and program/career plans.

5. Monitor student attendance and academic progress. Tracks student participation in mandatory cohort activities and the use of academic support services.

6. Create and manage CCAC's Early Alert Warning System in order to identify academically - challenge college students in all program courses; works with the Student Success Coaches and other Student Services staff to meet early intervention measures when necessary.

7. Provide on-going academic support by creating cohort subgroups for problematic content study sessions.

8. Conduct one on one scheduled meetings with cohort students once a month.

9. Provide on-going counseling/referrals to assist students with non-academic concerns that maybe a barrier to academic success.

10. Plan and implement retention training sessions as needed in both group and individual formats to provide students with critical thinking skills, resilience/confidence training, study success strategies, and student success approaches.

11. Create personalized retention plans and monitors student progress.

12. Coordinate and monitor mentoring for members in each cohort.

13. Report weekly retention strategies with supporting evidence of student success.

14. Develop further resiliency initiatives and student-focused retention activities based on success data.

15. Assist in the coordination of other UPMC/CCAC Collaborations.

16. Perform other duties as directed or as assigned.
