NTID, one of the nine colleges of RIT, is the world's largest technological college serving deaf and hard of hearing students. Created by Congress and funded by the U.S. Department of Education, it represents the world's first effort to educate large numbers of deaf students within a college campus planned primarily for hearing students. Detailed Job Description
The Department of Science and Mathematics at NTID is seeking to fill a 9.5-month tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will provide tutoring and instructional support, both group and individual, to deaf and hard-of-hearing students mainstreamed in College of Science (COS) mathematics and statistics courses; teach developmental mathematics and statistics in the college of NTID; mentor students; and, fulfill other faculty expectations including those related to scholarly activity that result in tenure and promotion in rank. Required Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in mathematics or in a field in the mathematical sciences.

• Applicants whose doctoral degree is in education will also be considered as long as they have significant graduate-level mathematics coursework.
• Candidates who are ABD with an expected completion date by August 1, 2014 will be considered.
• Candidates who do not have a doctorate but who have relevant industrial and/or educational experience may also be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to perform research and to publish results in peer-reviewed journals; potential to do so with undergraduate students
• Demonstrated ability to tutor upper-level mathematics courses and teach developmental mathematics courses
• Evidence of ability to inspire students.

Required Minimum Education Level PhD

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching and/or tutoring experience, especially with deaf and hard-of-hearing students
• Experience with standard computer software used in undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses
• For candidates with degrees not in statistics, successful completion of coursework in statistics
• Sign language fluency*

*The tenure-track position requires that the candidate possess sign language fluency at the intermediate level or above. Lacking this qualification, the successful candidate will begin employment with lecturer status. The position will become tenure track once the candidate possesses this qualification. (NTID provides an intensive sign language program for non-signing faculty.) At such time, the probationary period for tenure review as specified in the letter of hire will begin.
