    Department of Computer Science (cybersecurity focus)

    St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position in the Department of Computer Science, beginning August 2024. Rank and tenure eligibility will be determined based on candidate qualifications. Initial appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) or assistant professor of practice (specialized faculty). At St. Edward's University, specialized faculty are not tenure eligible but receive renewable contracts and have opportunities for promotion-in this case, to associate/full teaching professor.     The successful candidate should demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate instruction, with an emphasis on cybersecurity-related subjects, and an interest in joining efforts for the development of new cybersecurity courses within the Computer Science Department. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to direct a variety of independent undergraduate projects.

    Candidates must include in their cover letter whether they are applying for the tenure-track or specialized faculty position. For consideration in the tenure-track (TT) position at the assistant professor level, candidates should possess or expect to earn (before August 2024) a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field. For the specialized faculty position, a Master's degree in one of the same fields is required. Preference will be given for candidates who can teach a diverse range of undergraduate courses, with an emphasis on cybersecurity-related subjects.

    Essential Responsibilities Include: Candidates should have the interest and ability or potential to teach a range of undergraduate courses and support a diverse student body.
    • Teach a typical load equivalent to four to five 3-credit courses per semester, and work with students in various undergraduate projects
    • Design and teach a range of computer science undergraduate courses with a focus on cybersecurity courses including but not limited to system and network security, intrusion detection, incident response and handling, cyber defence, and penetration testing
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop new courses in the cybersecurity program within the Computer Science department and share best practices in cybersecurity education
    • Maintain a program of scholarly activity that is conducive to mentoring student research (tenure-track only)
    • Academic advising of computer science students
    • Service to the university, school, and department
    • Other required faculty responsibilities are specified in the Faculty Manual

    About the School of Natural Sciences: The School of Natural Sciences is home to six academic departments, including Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Forensic Science, Kinesiology, and Mathematics.
