Position Summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing and managing custodial operations on campus. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall maintenance of the university's facilities. The incumbent will lead a team of custodial staff, establish and enforce cleaning standards, manage supplies and equipment, and coordinate daily custodial operations. This position is vital to creating a positive and hygienic environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.
Duties may include:
  • Providing leadership and mentorship to the Custodial Services team
  • Managing and maintaining cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Assisting in budget planning and cost control for the department
  • Maintaining open communication with building occupants and addressing any concerns or special requests promptly
  • Providing ongoing training and professional development opportunities to custodial staff
  • Other duties as assigned.





Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years performing custodial duties, including working with industrial cleaning chemicals and heavy-duty cleaning equipment.
  • Two years performing supervisory duties.
  • Using computer software and applications for word processing, email, spreadsheets and internet searches





Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management or related field
  • Experience in the hospitality, service or health care industries
  • Experience training custodial and/or maintenance staff
  • Experience managing a large custodial staff or related operations and services
  • Experience developing operating policies and procedures
  • Experience with current custodial techniques, standards and management practices
  • Math, reading and analytical critical thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated positive attitude toward customer satisfaction and continuous quality service improvement





Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to:
    • Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
    • Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
    • Carry, lift or otherwise moves items weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Work in inclement weather conditions
    • Work on uneven and slick surfaces
