Duties & Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Research Strategy and Development, the Research Development Data Analyst and Strategy Specialist will work as part of a team to provide support to Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers in growing and diversifying research funding.  Specifically the Research Development Data Analyst and Strategy Specialist will:

1.Assist with development and execution of research development policies designed to support HSPH faculty and research mission.
Develop and operationalize systems to deploy, track and assess school-wide policies and research development activities. 
Work with Director to implement system for bi-monthly review of Harvard School of Public Health's (HSPH) compliance with National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy. This will include leveraging NIH and Countway Library monitoring tools and identifying research investigators who are potentially out of compliance and working with faculty and administrators to trouble-shoot/resolve issues.
Work with the HSPH Office of Faculty Affairs, Sponsored Programs Administration, and departments to run bi-annual updates of eligible HSPH Primary Investigators and assist Director in responding to ad hoc questions and waiver requests.
Work with Office of Research Strategy and Development (ORSD) team to develop, implement and provide support for other policy efforts, including HSPH policies pertaining to Data Use Agreements, Harvard Open Access Policy, and other additional policies.
Provide ongoing operational support and monitoring (e.g., analytical support, tracking questions/concerns, revising business processes, responding to/trouble shooting ongoing questions and requests) for all HSPH policies that fall within ORSD's purview. 

2.Assist ORSD with ongoing data analysis critical to support ORSD's research development function. 

Work with HSPH Senior Associate Dean for Research and ORSD Director to conduct data analyzes needed to support the advancement of research development, compliance and administration at HSPH.
Liaise with HSPH/Harvard administrative units to provide data analysis and reporting support, leveraging internal and external information management systems (Grant Management Application System, Wasabi personnel reporting system, Office of Faculty Affairs database, Harvard Faculty Finder, NIH Public Access Monitoring System, NIH Reporter, etc.).
Develop and maintain a suite of analyses and reports that track research development & administration activities.

Basic Qualifications   Bachelor's degree required.
  At least 8-10 years of successful, extensive, and increasingly responsible management experience in a research, academic, or intellectually based  organization within a university, research facility, medical center, or similar institutions.
  Must be knowledgeable  with the NIH funding process, NIH and NSF policies and procedures,, NIH commons, NIH Reporter, Fastlane, foundation grant mechanisms.  
  Occasional evening work will be required.

Additional Qualifications   Must have experience with grants, experience with large center grants and training grants preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  Strong technical and analytical skills
  Extensive experience leveraging Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and other software tools
  Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  Proven capacity to liaise with/coordinate faculty, administrators, staff and external consultants
  Experience in implementing organizational/systems changes
  Experience in implementing technology-based research management systems preferred
Experience with Harvard  internal information management systems (GMAS, PeopleSoft, Banner) preferred
  Experience with website development, social networking applications and other communication tools a plus

Additional Information 3. Assist with development and delivery of communications tools.
Help develop analyses, policy briefs and narrative for ORSD newsletters and announcements, presentations, annual research report, and ORSD website content.
Work with ORSD Coordinator to develop structure and content for grant proposal development repository (boilerplate language, briefing documentation, guidance on particular grant mechanisms, sample proposal library).
Provide assistance in developing curricular material, analyses and presentation materials for faculty development presentations and workshops.
4. Support efforts to deploy/leverage technology solutions to support research development and administration efforts at HSPH.
Work with ORSD Director, Communications Coordinator, and Harvard Limited Submission Opportunities (LSO) Committee to implement HSPH-level LSO application module.
  Work with ORSD Director and consultant to support needs assessment of web-based faculty information system.  Responsibilities  include:
    o Liaising with data providers, end users, consultant and vendor as needed
    o Working with consultant and vendor to conduct system testing
    o Collecting end user feedback
    o Evaluating recommendations derived from the assessment.
Work as part of multi-unit team to support ongoing efforts to implement school-wide faculty database.

5. Provide support for Comprehensive Review of HSPH Research Strategy.
Provide strategic leadership in development of research report and preliminary phase of research review.
Develop and execute development process and work plan to complete research review and annual report.
Complete benchmarking of HSPH against high-volume research institutions.
Coordinate outreach to/input from admin & academic partners.
Lead collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative information and development of report narrative.
Develop communications strategy to leverage research report for internal and external audiences.
Work with HSPH senior leadership to develop process for leveraging preliminary review to launch future comprehensive research strategy initiative.
