Position Description:

  • Provides oversight in the implementation of a university-assisted community school at Booker T. Washington Senior High School (BTW) in Overtown, Miami and work closely with the Education Effect Partnership Director based in Liberty City. Oversees the logistics and daily operations of the partnership at BTW and will be directly supported by an on-site coordinator and a graduate assistant.
  •     Provides leadership in the implementation of a university-assisted community school model at Booker T. Washington Senior High School (BTW) in Overtown, Miami and work closely with the Education Effect Partnership Director based in Liberty City.
  •     Provides leadership in the planning phase to gather baseline data and metrics for evaluation, assess needs and strengths of the school, students and community via focus groups, interviews of key stakeholders, asset mapping and reports
  •     Provides oversight in the daily operations and programming including afterschool and summer as well as parent and community outreach.
  •     Represents the partnership on-site, at FIU, in the school district, in the local community, and at national forums for university-community partnerships.
  •     Convenes local stakeholders to create a platform for collaboration focused on improving academic performance.
  •     Serves district and school administration, Booker T. Washington students and parents. Achieves grant objectives and works to facilitate the institutionalization of initiatives.
  •     Identifies and ignites opportunities for FIU students and faculty to engage in the school partnership and for BTW students and teachers to engage with the university.
  •     Stewards donors including development of progress reports.
  •     Seeks additional grant funding opportunities to sustain program.



Preferences:

  •     Ability to communicate effectively with school, district, and other community officials who will be involved or contacted over the course of the project.
  •     Master's degree or working toward master's degree completion.
  •     Experience working with non-profits and working with students.
  •     Ability to build alliances, chair meetings, and inspire participation towards collective impact.
  •     Experience in project management and grants reporting.
  •     Ability to work in an urban school setting. K-12 experience.
  •     Experience in grant writing, public speaking, and presentations.
  •     Experience in grant writing/management, public speaking, and presentations.
  •     Ability to travel between the University and community.
  •     Experience with data analysis and research.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in an appropriate specialization and six years of experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and eight years of experience.
