Brigham Young University invites applications for: (1) a full-time professorial, continuing-status (BYU’s equivalent of tenure-track) position in Philosophy; (2) a 1-semester or 1-3 year Visiting Faculty or Visiting Instructor, non-continuing (non-tenure track) position in Philosophy; and (3) multiple part-time, adjunct-faculty non-continuing (non-tenure track) positions in Philosophy. The continuing position requires a PhD in philosophy (or a closely related field with substantial graduate training in philosophy) at time of hire, and expectations include regular contributions to scholarship in philosophy and a teaching load of 6 undergraduate courses per year; the continuing position also prefers expertise in one or more of the following areas—medieval philosophy, Post-Kantian German idealism (including Fichte, Schelling, Hegel and Schopenhauer), contemporary European (Continental) philosophy, philosophy of religion, pragmatism, social and political philosophy, non-Western philosophy, or ethics. Teaching responsibilities for all positions may include courses in philosophical writing, introduction to philosophy, history of philosophy, as well as core courses (such as epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, logic, etc.) in accord with the candidate’s areas of training and competence, and upper-division figures/topics courses in accord with the candidate’s areas of specialization.
