Job Description Summary
This role manages the day-to-day operations for several computational research protocols, with the additional capacity of contributing to original research in data science and artificial intelligence. They will oversee existing project activities, supporting the implementation of new projects in the domain of computational environmental health science, and meeting timelines involved in biological/chemical dataset collection and knowledge representation. They will also manage data using different tools, systems, and machine learning software packages and submit protocol modifications and continuing reviews to the IRB as needed, perform literature review, and write reports and sections of grant proposals and manuscripts for publication. This role will not include any direct patient interaction or enrolling patients in studies, but it may include the retrospective analysis of previously collected patient data. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the design, conduct, and analysis of novel data science methodologies, including but not limited to graph machine learning and large language models (LLMs) for highly heterogeneous environmental and biomedical data.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Analyze data using sophisticated econometric techniques and statistical software
  • Develop and support new tools and data science protocols for computational environmental health research, including those that improve the collection, representation, discovery, and dissemination of biomedical knowledge
  • Ensure that projects are executed successfully and completed within time frames to meet research objectives
  • Lead the development of new data science research protocols that clearly describe research objectives and procedures necessary to test hypotheses
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives within the Romano Lab
  • Partner with the lab PI and collaborating faculty to facilitate the implementation of their research projects: Plan and execute research study procedures; develop and maintain project related documents including source documents, and maintain open-source code repositories
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


The Actual End Date of this position is 7/31/2025 and is contingent upon grant funding

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required:
  • Experience programming in Python.
  • Experience or training in statistics or machine learning, and working in Unix and high performing environments preferred.
  • Must have superior organizational skills
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously


Preferred:
  • Experience with deep learning, especially graph machine learning
  • Experience using a Python-based artificial neural network framework, such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, or similar.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in an academic research setting and function well independently as well as collaboratively.
