The Mississippi State University (MSU) Libraries seek innovative, dynamic applicants for a tenured, Associate Professor/Coordinator of Research Services position.  This position is responsible for the continued planning, management and delivery of a broad range of reference and instructional services to support the University’s curriculum and mission, with primary responsibility for providing vision, leadership and supervision of the Research Services (which includes the Libraries’ reference, government documents, instruction and current journals collections).  This position reports to the Associate Dean for Public Services. DUTIES:  provides overall supervision and direction of the Research Services; coordinates and supervises the work of eleven library faculty and three support staff and a number of Library Student Assistants; leads the process that will identify instructional needs and opportunities for teaching and learning programs for students and for engaging faculty in information literacy initiatives; coordinates the Research Services Department collection development efforts; schedules reference desk hours for all librarians and staff; coordinates the Research Services Department’s participation in Library Instruction; supervises chat and email reference services; serves on Library and University committees as appropriate and maintains a course of professional development through participation in professional associations; serves as a library liaison to at least one academic department; works with the Associate Dean for Public Services to continue to enhance the Library’s Campus Outreach Program; meets Library and University requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality; performs other duties as assigned and needed.  REQUIRED:  Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program;  at least three-five years documented and successful supervisory experience in an academic library; at least five years reference experience in an academic library; must qualify for the rank of Associate Professor with tenure; experience with current and emerging library technologies; experience building and managing teams; experience as a mentor; fluency with emerging library trends; strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and written); ability to set and adjust priorities and workflow in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to carry out professional research and service necessary to meet Library and University requirements for promotion and tenure. PREFERRED:  Additional graduate degree; experience with research and reference collection management; knowledge and experience in working with current trends in library assessment; experience in the theory and application of information literacy and a desire to pursue and institute best practices for teaching and learning.  Salary/Benefits:  $65,000 - $70,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience; faculty rank, privileges and responsibilities; 12-month appointment, excellent benefits package.
