Emory University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice President, Planning, Design and Construction. 

 

Emory University is one of the country’s leading educational and research institutions and supports one of the Southeast's leading healthcare systems.   The University’s central campus stands on over 650 hilly and wooded acres approximately six miles from downtown Atlanta. Emory’s operating budget is $4.3 billion (2013-2014), and the value of its endowment and trust funds was $5.8 billion, as of August 31, 2013.  Emory received over $507 million in external sponsored research funding in 2013, and according to a recent study commissioned by the University spends more than $2.5 billion in Atlanta each year for a total estimated impact on the state’s economy of $5.1 billion. 

 

Reporting to the University’s Vice President for Campus Services, the Associate Vice President for Planning, Design and Construction will be responsible for managing Emory’s capital and non-capital program from the planning stage through commission and closeout.  The AVP plays a leadership role in the development of capital and non-capital program delivery by designing and managing efficient and effective processes to align all internal and external participants in the program and by leading a high-performing professional staff of, program managers, project managers, interior designers and graphic designers who demonstrate a commitment to client service in all they do. The AVP will collaborate with senior academic and administrative leadership to support Emory’s mission and will cultivate and sustain cooperative working relationships with neighborhood, city, state, and federal agencies. And as a senior member of the Vice President’s organization, the AVP will contribute to the overall success of Campus Services in all aspects of its performance.

 

The successful candidate will be a skilled and experienced professional with first-rate collaboration, communication, and leadership skills who can build and lead a strong team while contributing to the overall effectiveness and reputation of Campus Services. In addition, this position requires an undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience; a professional license as an architect or engineer is preferred.  A minimum of 10 years of experience including planning and design management and capital-improvement programming is required; experience with a University and/or academic medical center is also preferred.
