The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at the Indianapolis campus seeks an exceptional candidate to be the Director of the Public Policy Institute (PPI). The Institute is one of the most important community engagement units for SPEA and Indiana University, and it has an experienced staff of policy analysts and affiliated faculty members. The PPI advisory board includes important community leaders, and PPI has a wide variety of government, nonprofit and foundation clients. PPI plays an important role convening policy discussions, and it conducts nonpartisan, objective analysis that helps community leaders make informed decisions. The institute provides technical assistance and conducts applied research of relevance to community clients.
The successful candidate must have an MPA, MBA, JD, or other graduate degree in public affairs and/or a directly related social science field. Project management, financial management, and fundraising are crucial functions of this position. The PPI leader must have extensive experience working in the public sphere along with the requisite skills and demonstrated experience of raising external dollars from government, businesses, foundations and/or individuals. The successful individual must understand campus, local and state government, foundations, nonprofits, and the interaction of these groups in helping to shape our community. This unique and exceptional individual must have strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills, and must be able to thrive in an interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial environment.
SPEA is a multi-disciplinary professional school of Indiana University, committed to excellence in research, teaching, and civic engagement. The Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses make up one core school. Among public affairs programs, SPEA programs are ranked highly by U.S. News and World Reports. SPEA IUPUI offers undergraduate majors in criminal justice, public affairs and sustainability as well as a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) and a Master in Criminal Justice at the graduate level. The PPI director may teach in these programs.
IUPUI is a research-intensive institution, with over $300 million annually in external grants and contracts. SPEA-IUPUI maintains excellent relationships with state and local government agencies and departments. With over 30,000 students, IUPUI is the third largest campus in the state and confers more professional degrees than any other campus in Indiana. IUPUI is located in thriving downtown Indianapolis within walking distance of the state office complex, many world-class museums and sports facilities for four professional teams.
