Job Overview:

The University recently formed the AJ Drexel Institute for Energy and the Environment (IExE), focusing state-of-the-art academic research and learning in an area of significant national and international importance - that of securing a sustainable energy future for individuals the world over.


Recognized as a priority by Drexel's President John Fry and Provost Mark Greenberg, the IExE seeks to advance energy systems, technologies, and policies that shape and inform the development of an energy future that meets the needs of both current and future generations. IExE outcomes will provide the citizens of Greater Philadelphia and beyond with information relevant to the ongoing development of a variety of energy sources, seeking to address global society's growing energy needs while simultaneously respecting the environment.


In this senior academic position, the Director will have the opportunity to shape the strategic agenda for the IExE activities.


The Director must have the ability to represent Drexel effectively in regional, national and international settings, to engage a range of stakeholders and constituents, and to generate financial resources to strengthen the activities and relevance of the IExE.


Qualifications:

*PhD in related field or discipline; an advanced degree with extensive industry related experience highly preferred;

 *Exceptional track record of innovative and visionary leadership on energy and environmental matters;

*Distinguished contributions to thought leadership, scholarship and/or research at the national and/or international level;

*Commitment to excellence, a record of collaborative multidisciplinary program development and partnerships; previous program management and budget administration experience required;

*Dedication to cultivating leadership in others demonstrated through ability to effectively lead and direct personnel with diverse skills, work styles and values.


Essential Functions:

*Provide strategic leadership to guide the strategic agenda and set long-term goals for the IExE;

*Engage a range of stakeholders and constituencies to generate financial resources to strengthen the activities and relevance of the IExE; *Develop the facilities that will house the faculty, staff and students participating in the IExE activities;

*Oversee planning and budgeting of assigned budgetary resources to ensure fiscal responsibility;

*Represent Drexel effectively in regional, national and international settings to raise the profile of the IExE;

*Foster and maintain excellent relationships and networks in energy and the environment, as well as developing new relationships as needed, and manage relationships with collaborative research partners affiliated with the IExE;

*Create a supportive work environment that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship that enables faculty and staff to reach their full potential.
