Purdue University invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The provost reports directly to and works closely with the president in providing institutional leadership.

Purdue has committed to an action program—Purdue Moves--aimed at propelling Purdue forward in its teaching, research and public engagement missions, and at addressing head-on many of the challenges confronting all of higher education.  Purdue Moves are poised to stamp Purdue as a global leader in areas that fit Purdues historic land-grant mission and that are of most pressing importance today.  Collectively, the Purdue Moves illustrate the institutions commitment to being a leader in research and STEM-based baccalaureate and advanced degrees, to providing an education marked by proven student growth, and doing so at a cost that students can afford.  At the same time, the university is committed to achieving excellence across the full range of academic disciplines.

The provost must have the vision and action orientation to implement the Purdue Moves and to lead the university in attaining its goals. The provost must also have the ideas and collaborative ability to sharpen institutional focus on student intellectual growth as well as the ability and vision to strengthen research programs that will broaden the universitys impact in world-shaping research.

The provost is responsible for the recruitment, hiring and review of deans and ensuring that they successfully implement programs to achieve the universitys education and research priorities.  The graduate school, enrollment management, libraries and student services also report to the provost.

Applicants must have a distinguished record of academic accomplishments commensurate with that of a tenured faculty member at the rank of professor in one of Purdues departments or schools and must have proven administrative and managerial expertise in a complex organization, including experience in research and educational institutions, as well as deep experience in strategic execution and institutional improvement.  Finalists will be expected to discuss the Purdue Moves goals and ways to advance them.  Prior success in fund-raising is preferred.

The committee will begin reviewing applications on February 21, 2014 and will continue to consider applications until the position is filled.  Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and a letter addressing the applicant's interest, relevant experience and qualifications for leading Purdues academic mission at this important time for higher education, to Dr. Tim Zwier, Chair, Provost Search Committee, and to Brenda Coulson, Director of Talent Acquisition,  Applications will be treated as confidential until the final stages of the search process.  Nominations may be sent to the same email addresses.
